The Black Panther mantle is one of the most storied in the entire Marvel Universe. While we have gotten glimpses of a handful of Black Panthers over the years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the history of Wakanda has yet to be explored at length in a project. Thankfully, a new animated series called Eyes of Wakanda will retrace the history of the Black Panther mantle and fill in those gaps.

A new “Look Ahead” trailer posted by Marvel Studios revealed that Eyes of Wakanda will release on August 6, 2025 on Disney+. While there was very little footage from the show in the trailer, it did feature a Wakandan warrior defeating what appears to be a Viking, based on the hairstyle and tattoos, in battle. Currently, we don’t know what time periods Eyes of Wakanda will engage with, so it’s possible that these are Vikings from the Middle Ages. Alternatively, given Asgard’s relation to Viking culture in the MCU, the defeated warrior could be a Valkyrie.

The animation style of Eyes of Wakanda is markedly different from the photorealistic, almost rotoscoped-looking, styles of What If…? and Marvel Zombies. Eyes of Wakanda’s animation is much more geometric-looking, while still leaning into a 2D animated aesthetic that has been a constant for Marvel Animation projects so far.

Eyes of Wakanda will also close out a busy summer for Marvel Studios next year. The season kicks off with Ironheart’s release on Disney+ on June 24, then The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25, before Eyes of Wakanda closes the summer season out in early August.

Eyes of Wakanda will release on Disney+ on August 6, 2025.
