Ella Purnell confesses that she broke "so many iPhones" on Amazon Prime Video's Fallout set (but she had a good reason)

Fallout’s Ella Purnell had a habit of accidentally breaking iPhones while filming the series

Living in a post-apocalyptic society is hard. Everyday is a fight for survival, and things can get a bit stressful. Under those circumstances, you don’t blame someone for dropping an iPhone once or twice. Or dozens of times.

In fairness, Ella Purnell has a lot on her plate. The actress plays Lucy MacLean on Fallout, an Amazon Prime Video streaming series based on the hit video game franchise. If you ever watch a scene where Lucy is holding a Pip-Boy, just know that she’s broken dozens of them.

During a spotlight panel at MCM x EGX 2024, Ella Purnell confessed that she had accidentally broken many iPhones while filming Fallout. “The Pip-Boys were made with iPhones. It was sort of like, there was a contraption and there was an iPhone sideways, and magnetized covering. When I gestured with my hands, the Pip-Boys would just go flying across the room. So, I’ve broken so many iPhones.”

According to the actress, the magnets holding the iPhones aren’t very strong, and she gestures a bit too rough. As you can imagine, this is a rough combination for the iPhones. “It’s just a magnet, which they undo. I really gesture very strongly.”

To be fair, everyone drops their phone once in a while. It’s comforting to know that big Hollywood stars have the same problem. Still, if you’re doing holiday shopping for Purnell or the Fallout producers, they’ll probably appreciate some of those sturdy iPhone cases.

Fallout is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
