Friends gets its own fan gameshow on Max, recommended for fans who are always stuck in second gear

As of writing, it's unclear whether contestants of Fast Friends on Max will be required to have love lives that are DOA

If there’s one thing Friends fans can’t claim as the show celebrates its 30th anniversary, it’s that no-one told them things were going to be this way — but, as Warner Bros. Discovery seeks to capitalize on the birthday of the hit 1990s sitcom, superfans are going to get the chance to demonstrate just how much they’ve learned about the way things are over Central Perk-way, with a new gameshow based on the series on its way.

Fast Friends (get it?) will be a four-part game show streaming on Max that will let fans re-enact their favorite moments from the show — the official announcement specifically mentions, “racing through Rachel and Monica’s apartment to darting across Joey and Chandler’s bachelor pad and grabbing a coffee at Central Perk,” which reminds me that I should probably tell you that the show is being shot at NYC’s The Friends Experience: The One, which features recreations of the show’s sets across a two-story building — as well as answer trivia questions about the series, in addition to solving “puzzles, and games that will keep even the most die-hard Friends fans on their toes.”

The ultimate goal for all of this? The chance to be crowned the Ultimate Friends Fan, according to producers. It’s unclear as yet if there’s any prize beyond that title, but maybe that title is enough for those who’ll be taking part; some people really appreciate bragging rights.

The show will go into production next month, with no premiere date currently announced. It should be noted, though, that Friends actually celebrated its 30th anniversary on September 22, 2024, meaning that even if the show was rushed through the production process it would still be late for the big event itself. In fact, if it doesn’t make it to Max before the end of December, it’ll miss out on the 30th anniversary year altogether. Who was responsible for planning this, Joey?
