Video game adaptations are definitely in right now, with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 doing big numbers at the box office in December 2024 and The Last of Us season two set to debut in April 2025. A Ghost of Tsushima live action film is even in the works, but that isn’t stopping Sony from finding a new medium to tell Sucker Punch’s PS4 and PS5 samurai action game. The company just announced an anime adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima is in the works, with Crunchyroll already on board to stream the series in 2027.

The original Ghost of Tsushima was released on the PlayStation 4 in 2020, so this does show how enduring the game’s story has proven. A live action movie has been in development since 2023, with John Wick director Chad Stahelski set to helm. It has been quiet for more than a year, but that doesn’t mean the Ghost of Tsushima anime is replacing the live action version.

Instead, the anime adaptation will focus on the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends multiplayer expansion, which allows players to team up to face legendary creatures from Japanese folklore. Takanobu Mizuno, who directed the Star Wars: Visions episode “The Duel,” has been announced as the series’ director. Kamikaze Douga is the studio producing the series.

No casting or plot details have been announced for the Ghost of Tsushima anime. Crunchyroll confirmed that they would be the streaming home of the series when it debuts in 2027, almost seven years after the original Ghost of Tsushima game launched.
