Ghosts is, at its heart, a comedy, but the show doesn't shy away from more serious topics. In the show's third season, it tackled a particularly serious topic - the topic of suicide. At the series' San Diego Comic-Con panel, the actors and co-showrunner chatted about a broad range of topics related to the show, with actor Rebecca Wisocky speaking to this heavier topic.
Spoilers for Ghosts season 3 below.
In the third season of Ghosts, hippie ghost Flower (who at the beginning of the season we thought had been "sucked off") ends up falling into a well with no way out. To save her, Hetty has a solution, but she has to reveal to her friends and family a secret she had carried for generations - that she died by suicide.
About this addition to Hetty's story, actor Rebecca Wisocky shared, "We all took it very seriously. We all spoke with mental health professionals as well." As for how the audience has reacted to how the show handled the topic, Wiscocky shared it has been positive, adding that people had reached out about how the themes being weaved between comedy and drama had helped families have deeper conversations.
"I've got some incredibly meaningful feedback from people who've been touched by suicide and depression in their life and that feels just really extraordinary," Wiscocky said. "I'm very proud to be on the show."
Ghosts is returning to the small screen in October.
