How Emma Myers got the part (and the British accent) to star in Netflix's A Good Girl's Guide to Murder

How a Florida girl like Emma Myers turned into a convincing British teen detective named Pip for A Good Girl's Guide to Murder.

You wouldn't know it from watching Netflix's A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, but the star of the British teen murder mystery isn't British. She's American - very American, in fact.

Myers is like me - from Florida, which is a long way away from England. It's an American accent, with perhaps a hint of Southern drawl that she works out when she acts - but it's not a British accent. So when she signed on to star in A Good Girl's Guide to Murder just two weeks before filming began, she had to be a quick learner - to the point even the producers who hired her were psyching themselves up that she could do it.

During the show's official panel at London's MCM Comic Con, Myers and the cast talked about being cast just two weeks before filming - and coming to get her accent.

"When we first met Emma we were like 'Oh my gosh, this would just be perfect.' We could see Pip. But the time between that and getting a tape she sent was like .... 'I just know she can do an English accent!'" says director Dolly Wells. "We all just knew that she can. And I'd say she nailed it."

"She was so Pip that it felt like whatever accent she would do, she'd be able to be Pip," added Wells.

For Myers, now that she can do a British accent it's something she slips in and out of based on who she is around.

"The funny thing is though is that I feel like I can do it when I'm around - it comes back instantly," says Myers. "It comes back instantly, and then I start to cross a very weird line between American and English [accents]. I remember I had a meeting with a producer right after I finished wrapping Good Girls and he was like, 'Where are you from?'"

"We infected you!" chimes in the book author Holly Jackson.

"I honestly don't know what to answer cause I just did a TV show over in the UK and he was like, 'That's it, that's where it is.'"

"I remember seeing you yesterday and I was like 'You are so American!'" says co-star Asha Banks.
