Hannibal’s Hugh Dancy recalls his role in the fairytale musical Ella Enchanted

Hannibal’s Hugh Dancy says the best part of working on Ella Enchanted was the friendships

Years before Hugh Dancy played a FBI agent (who had an unusual relationship with a cannibal), Dancy portrayed a singing prince. While Dancy is more known for his time on Hannibal, the actor will always have a soft spot for his role as Prince Charmont in the 2004 film Ella Enchanted.

“It was just before King Arthur. It was quite distinct movies, but I ended up spending like a year in Dublin, because we filmed both of them there,” Dancy says during the Hannibal reunion panel on the Emerald City Comic Con 2025 Main Stage powered by Xfinity.

“It was great. Tommy O’Haver who directed it is still a good friend of mine. I just did a kind of fiction podcast thing with him. Anything like that where you make a friendship that lasts for decades at this point is usually a really good time.”

While Ella Enchanted bombed at the box office, the movie is considered a cult classic. It just goes to show you that no matter how many serial killers you hunt, at your core, you’ll never escape your past as a singing prince.
