Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller wanted to gift Mads Mikkelsen Lecter’s red suit (but Mads had already stolen it)

If you ever get a chance to peek inside Mads Mikkelsen’s closet, you might find a familiar outfit. Mikkelsen is the current owner of Hannibal’s infamous 3 piece red suit. The one the character infamously wore in season 2, which has been used in numerous series photos.
However, Mads didn’t exactly have permission to take the suit home…at least at first. “I took a 3 piece suit, a red suit, home,” Mikkelsen says during the Hannibal reunion panel on the Emerald City Comic Con 2025 Main Stage powered by Xfinity. “And then we heard the story that we were not coming back. And then Bryan [Fuller] called me and said, ‘Mads, I really want to give you this red suit, but I can’t find it, so I’ll give you something else.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s because I have it Bryan.’”
Why the red suit? Because it’s just as daring as Hannibal himself. “It was amazing. It’s daring. It’s something that you have to be brave enough to wear it, but it’s beautiful,” Mikelsen says. In other words, it suits him.
