Star Wars star John Boyega wants to star in HBO’s The Last of Us – but only if he can play Pedro Pascal’s role (temporarily)
John Boyega thinks it would be fun to take over the role of Joel for one episode on The Last of Us

John Boyega has a dream role, but another Star Wars actor is already playing it.
Speaking to a crowd at the John Boyega: The Force of Talent panel at C2E2 2025, Boyega was asked if there were any television shows or movies he would like to make a guest appearance on. Boyega had a show in mind, but there were certain conditions.
“I just want to be the guy in Last of Us,” Boyega said. “Just for one episode. Just one. And I need you guys as fans to just pretend as if nothing changed. So when Pedro comes back you’re like, ‘Yeah.’”
“The Last of Us is a phenomenal TV show,” Boyega continues. “It’s a zombie TV show, so imagine me as one of the guys in Walking Dead or something. That kind of vibe. I would love to do that.”
I’ve heard of casting stunts, but this would take things to another level. If someone can come up with a plausible reason why Joel looks like John Boyega for an episode, then that writer deserves an Emmy. And that’s if HBO goes for this idea.
