The role Simu Liu is most recognized for isn’t Marvel’s Shang-Chi or Barbie’s Ken…it’s Kim's Convenience's Jung Kim
According to Simu Liu, the actor is recognized more for Kim’s Convenience than he is for any other project, despite being in both the MCU and Greta Gerwig's Barbie

In 2021, Simu Liu starred in his own Marvel film. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings swept the box office, becoming the highest-grossing film ever released during Labor Day weekend. Two years later, Liu portrayed one of the many Kens in the 2023 film Barbie. The summer of 2023 belonged to Barbie, with the film becoming the highest-grossing film in Warner Bros. history.
Needless to say, Liu has been in a lot of hits. However, according to the actor, the role that he is recognized the most for is Jung Kim from Kim’s Convenience. Running from 2016-2021, the Canadian television sitcom focuses on a Korean Canadian family that runs a convenience store. Liu portrayed Jung Kim, a young adult trying to put his life back together and mend fences with his father.
During a spotlight panel at Fan Expo Canada, Simu Liu reflected on the legacy of Kim’s Convenience. “You will not believe how many people watch and love this show, all over the world.”
“Kim’s Convenience, I swear to god, is still the number one thing I’m recognized for. It speaks to the power of Canadian storytelling, and it speaks to this little show that truly started out on the CBC as this tiny little show about an Asian-Canadian family that somehow got picked up by Netflix, and thrust out in front of a global audience, and has become just a really beautiful way for families to connect, and learn about each other, and learn about different cultures, and for children and parents to watch together.”
While Liu has gone on to superstardom with Shang-Chi and Ken, he’ll never forget where he came from. “It forever will be the show that gave me everything, and it continues to touch families, and I’m so grateful to have been a part of it.”
