DC's Lanterns adds Superman's Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner makes the jump to HBO - but will his bowl cut make the cut?

Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner will mark the third Lantern to show up in HBO's Green Lanterns show

HBO and DC Studios’ Lanterns series just added another ringbearer, with the news that Nathan Fillion is set to reprise his Superman role of Guy Gardner in the upcoming television series based on DC’s Green Lantern mythos.

Fillion’s Gardner — who can be seen in the trailer for July’s Superman wielding his own Green Lantern ring with purpose and abandon — will join the already announced Lanterns of Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) in the show, although it’s unclear how long he’ll be attached to the show. It’s also not entirely clear whether or not Gardner will still be a Green Lantern when he shows up in the series, given that Pierre’s Stewart is described as a “new recruit” in the official publicity for the show. Could Stewart be Guy Gardner’s replacement — and if so, could that explain why the latter is showing up in the series?

While we’re asking questions: will Gardner continue to have the amazing-looking bowl cut he sports in Superman when he shows up in the new series, or will he have switched to the less ridiculous-looking crew cut the character adopted in later comic book appearances? After all, Lanterns’ hair and make-up budget can only stretch so far, right…?

Fillion joins a cast including Kelly MacDonald, Garret Dillahunt , Ulrich Thomsen, Poorna Jagannathan, and Jasmine Cephas Jones as John's mother, Bernadette. Lanterns, showrun by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, is expected to debut on HBO and Max in 2026.
