2018 was a big year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thanos snapped his fingers and dusted half of the MCU in Avengers: Infinity War, and Netflix cancelled Daredevil (a different kind of dusting). The next time we saw Matt Murdock was the 2021 film Spider-Man: No Way Home. By then, all the fallen heroes and civilians had already been restored from the infamous Thanos snap. As a result, Matt Murdock’s whereabouts are unaccounted for during the Blip.
Even The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline avoids mentioning Matt’s activities prior to his cameos in Spider-Man and She-Hulk. So, where was Daredevil during the Blip? Was he helping Marvel’s heroes rebuild the fractured society, or did Thanos send him on a 5-year dust vacation?
During a spotlight panel at Fan Expo San Francisco 2024, a fan asked Charlie Cox about Matt Murdock’s whereabouts during the infamous Blip. “I just want to know if Matt Murdock survived the Blip. Was he dusted, or did he go through the full 5 years?”
Unfortunately, Cox couldn’t reveal anything. “I can’t answer that,” Cox replied, before moving on to the next question. Cox didn’t elaborate if he knew the answer himself and was under NDA, or if he hadn’t been told.
However, we know from other convention appearances that Cox has had conversations with Marvel Studios about Daredevil’s missing years. Therefore, we can infer that Cox is playing things close to the vest so he doesn’t upset Marvel or break the NDA. Plus, it’s likely that Daredevil: Born Again will shed some light on Daredevil’s activities during that time period.
Daredevil: Born Again premieres on Disney+ on March 4, 2025.
