Collect $200, because Netflix has landed a Monopoly reality competition show

Netflix has emerged victorious from a bidding war over a "large-scale-social-experiment contest" based around Monopoly

Between The Golden Ticket and Squid Game: The Challenge, Netflix seems to be pretty keen on filling our eyeballs with people competing against each other. Now, the streamer has added another feather into its cap, with a reality competition show based around Hasbro's iconic Monopoly game.

Variety reports that the bidding process was "competitive" for the show. Reportedly, the show is "a 'large-scale-social-experiment contest' that will force contestants to form alliances and betray their competitors. They must walk the line between 'capitalism and chaos' in a 'cutthroat' race to own it all."

I am curious as to why "large-scale-social-experiment contest" is hyphenated that way when social experiments typically happen on a large scale to begin with (sample sizes, baby!). But I guess we will have to wait and see for how it all plays out.

Don't confuse this show with the Monopoly movie that Margot Robbie's production company, Lucky Chap, has in development with Lionsgate. Lucky Chap, of course, produced Greta Gerwig's Barbie movie. So between the movie and Netflix's Monopoly show, we'll have plenty of opportunities to observe the evils of capitalism.
