I've already got my watch list made up for this October. As may be the case for yourself, it's a whole bunch of horror movies. But that doesn't mean that they're the only thing available to check out this month; streaming services are offering a plethora of shows and films that are as varied as they are plentiful. So whether you plan on making your binging scary in the next 30 days, or if you want to avoid spooky season altogether (a decision I will try to respect), let Popverse key you in on what's streaming in October 2024.

What's coming to Netflix in October 2024

At the top of Netflix's October offerings list (for romance fans, anyway) is the third season of the smash-hit Heartstopper series based on the same name's graphic novel. But romance is far from the only thing Netflix is coming out with this month. There's adventure in the form of an animated Tomb Raider series, chills by way of the fifth volume of the streamer's Unsolved Mysteries reboot, and inspiration coming out of the second season of Olympic docuseries Simone Biles Rising. All that said, though, Netflix is also releasing the highly-anticipated Laura Dern/ Liam Hemsworth romantic drama Lonely Planet, so maybe this month really is for lovers. 

What's coming to Amazon Prime Video in October 2024

Your favorite band of adventurers is back for a third season when The Legend of Vox Machina returns to Amazon Prime Video on October 3, which is the same date that the culinary ghost story House of Spoils makes the kitchen creepy. Plenty of comedy is on its way from Amazon this month as well, from the Josh Brolin/Peter Dinklage-starring Brothers to the family sitcom The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh, both of which also debut on the same day.

What's coming to Max in October 2024

Max is taking spooky season seriously this month, as it not only drops the new Salem's Lot adaptation (based on the Stephen King novel of the same name), but also makes room for MaXXXine, the conclusion to Ti West's X trilogy, which will call the platform home October 18. And what's that? An M. Night Shyamalan movie (Lake Caddo) is dropping on October 10? I'm not saying that Halloween streaming is a competition, but at the moment, Max is winning.

What's coming to Hulu in October 2024

Hold on a minute, I may have spoken too soon - Hulu's also got a lovely looming lineup for Halloween 2024, starting with the latest (and tragically, last) season of What We Do in the Shadows. Then there's the surprise fourth season of American Horror Stories, FX's spinoff of the AHS core series, plus the original horror films Mr. Crockett and Carved. Topping all that off is the Solar Opposite Halloween Special and - hold on a minute, I think Hulu may have just pushed its way into First in Freakishness.

What's coming to Disney+ in October 2024

Easing back on the seasonal scariness is Disney+, whose documentary Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will bring an all-new understanding of one of America's most important rock bands to fans everywhere. However, there will be at least one somewhat-Halloweeny series headed to the platform this month, as an all-new generation of magic-users come to TV in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. Sure, the witches here aren't the scary kind, but they do rent an apartment in NYC, and those prices are enough to terrify anyone.

What's coming to Apple TV+ in October 2024

The Jason Segel-led therapy comedy Shrinking returns to AppleTV this month, which means that Harrison Ford will be back on your screens long before he makes his Marvel debut in next year's Captain America: Brave New World. Also hitting Apple's streaming wing is Disclaimer, a Cate Blanchett-starring thriller from storied filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón.

What's coming to Peacock in October 2024

And last but certainly not least for October streaming list is Peacock, which will be adding their own extraterrestrial flavor to this month's horror offerings with Teacup, based on the hair-raising novel Stinger by Robert McCammon.
