As you watch Netflix's Stranger Things, it’s interesting to see how well the show captures the essence of the ‘80s. The hit horror drama flawlessly recreates the music, clothing, and even the dated furniture. Of course, some of the credit goes to the cast. The Stranger Things actors embody what it means to be a child of the ‘80s, even though they were born decades later.

According to actor Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin Henderson in the series, he has the older generation to thank for that.

Speaking to a crowd at Fan Expo Dallas, Matarazzo playfully spoke about how a certain generation seems to be obsessed with the ‘80s. “I think we are all pretty well versed in ‘80s pop culture. I don’t know if you people who were raised in the ‘8-s are aware of this, but you all love to talk about the fact that you were raised in the ‘80s. At a certain point your kids are you like, ‘I know… I know! I know who Duran Duran is.  Yes, I get it, we know.’”

Matarazzo’s remarks were made in jest, and the crowd laughed, showing they got the joke. Furthermore, the Stranger Things star spoke about how all the ‘80s obsession helped him shape Dustin Henderson. “Even before Stranger Things, we were in it, we got it. We watched all the movies and listened to all the music. It was good to have all of that initially going in.”

The fifth and final season of Stranger Things will premiere on Netflix in 2025.
