Despite the entire internet begging them, The Oscars still won't let the Muppets host. But they got Conan O'Brien for 2025, which is kinda similar!

Take it as the compliment it is, Conan O'Brien. You hosting the Oscars in 2025 is the closet thing we've gotten to our dream of a Muppet-populated Academy Awards

The golden smoke has risen from the chimney of Meryl Streep's summer home, and you know what that means: a new Oscars host has been chosen. On March 2, 2025, late nite titan Conan O'Brien will host the 2025 Academy Awards, the 97th in the organization's long history. And though we're absolutely excited fro both Conan and his audience, we have to admit: we're sad that, once again, it won't be The Muppets.

If you've been on any kind of social media in the past, what, decade?, you know that there has been a noisy cry for The Muppets to host the Academy Awards from just about every corner of the internet. In 2019, Medium contributor Will Ashton published A Frantic, Last-Minute Plea To Let The Muppets Host The Oscars. In 2022, CBR rounded up social media outcry as the subject became a trending topic. Hell, someone called Ryan Herzig actually started a Change.org petition for the likes of Kermit and Gonzo to take the Academy Awards stage. Alas, all these people's dream is still just that.

On the bright side, Conan and the Muppets are alike in a couple of ways. They're both outrageously funny, beloved by the TV-watching American public, and incredible at talking with celebrities. If you did drugs in front of Conan O'Brien, it wouldn't be the most surprising thing for him to do a little dance about why that's bad. So while our hearts will still be yearning for Miss Piggy to snatch the 'Best Actress' envelope out of Rizzo's hands ans escape offstage with it, we'll still be turning into the Oscars with Conan O'Brien with high hopes.
