Outer Banks: How to watch the Netflix series

Outer Banks has been a hit for Netflix, and here's how you can watch it in order

Netflix has had lots of success with original movies and television shows geared around teens and young adults. Outer Banks is certainly no exception. The show is set in, you guessed it, the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where two groups of teens are in search of buried treasure. The two groups are comprised of the "Kooks," not the English indie rock band but holidaying wealthy teens with summer homes in the Outer Banks, and the "Pogues," who are working-class locals.

Because Outer Banks is a TV series that has only ever been on Netflix, it streamlines the process of watching the show. In order to watch it correctly, start with season one, then watch the succeeding seasons.

  • Outer Banks season 1 (2020)
  • Outer Banks season 2 (2021)
  • Outer Banks season 3 (2023)
  • Outer Banks season 4 (2024)

Luckily, if you want to watch the show chronologically, you don't need to deviate from the release order.

Where to watch Outer Banks

All three seasons of Outer Banks are streaming now on Netflix. The show has had strong viewership since the first season debuted in 2020. If you have a Netflix subscription, then it's easy to check out what all the hype has been about.

Will there be an Outer Banks season 4?

Fans of Outer Banks rejoice, because Netflix renewed the show for a fourth season in early 2023. Given that there was more than a year's break between season 2 and season 3's release dates, season 4 will likely hit the streaming service in a few months. Outer Banks season 4 will debut in two parts - Outer Banks season 4 part 1 is coming October 10, with Outer Banks season 4 part 2 being released November 7.

Is Outer Banks actually filmed in the Outer Banks?

No, Outer Banks isn't filmed in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Hilariously enough, the show is shot in Charleston, South Carolina. While Charleston is a charming town, its landscape looks completely different from the real Outer Banks. The Outer Banks has long been a tourist destination on the East Coast, and the popularity of the show will likely impact its local tourist economy.
