SDCC: Ghosts, Spongebob, and Ninja Turtles: Inside Paramount+’s The Lodge

What you can expect from Paramount+'s interactive experience at this SDCC 2024

Once again, Paramount+ has brought their The Lodge activation/experience to downtown San Diego for San Diego Comic Con. While last year did have a bit of Spongebob fun with a photo op, this year’s activations has “So Much More Spongebob” (according to the tagline on the wall) with a more impressive display including a game, a photo op with Patrick, (and a cameo from Tom Kenny himself on launch day).

Other experiences fans can access are making a custom Star Trek t-shirt (the logos on the wall promised Strange New Worlds, Discovery, and Lower Decks), getting two free cocktails inspired by favorite TV shows, playing bar games, playing coin operated slot machines (you don’t get to take your winnings home, sorry), and grabbing a slice of piping hot Turtle Power Pizza.

There are, as always, a handful of more involved photo ops from shows like Dexter Original Sin and new Ryan Reynolds film IF, But the big standout this year (especially for Ghosts fans) is a tiny room in the back that looks just like it belongs in Woodstone Manor. In this little room is a perfume testing station, with perfumes inspired by each of the main ghosts. You even get a little perfume sample to take with you on your way out (and I was handed a piece of butterscotch candy too - though no one else in line got one, so maybe I was special?). I sampled the perfume inspired by my favorite ghost – Trevor, but it was a little too metallic for me. Hetty’s Gilded Age perfume seemed a little more my speed.

No news on whether these perfumes will be made available for purchase, but it seems like it would be a fun collaboration for those who like their merch to be a little on the nose.

Paramount+’s The Lodge’s hours are Wednesday 6pm-10pm, Thursday 12pm-10pm, Friday 12pm-10pm, Saturday 12pm-10pm, and Sunday 10am-7pm for this year’s San Diego Comic Con. Check out our coverage of last year’s Lodge experience here.
