Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time in Hollywood is getting a spin-off at Netflix... and Tarantino wrote it
Directing the series, which may see Brad Pitt and even Leonardo DiCaprio return to their respective roles, is... wait a second, David Fincher??

Rick Dalton's career may just have the chance to live again, as Netflix confirms that a spinoff series to the 2019 film Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood is in development at the streamer. The spinoff comes from a script written by the film's auteur, Quentin Tarantino himself, though the Kill Bill creator won't be directing this time around. Instead, that'll be David Fincher, of se7en and Mind Hunter fame.
I know, it sounds made up. The Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news, even clarified in the subheading of their post (made April 1), that it was not a joke.
Next up in the "unbelievable but true" category of this particular bit of news is the talent that Netflix's OUATIH follow-up is looking to attract; that is, the original stars of the film. In particular, Brad Pitt, who plays stuntman and probable murderer Cliff Booth is said to be circling the project to reprise the role, and THR reports "possibly Leonardo DiCaprio" is doing the same.
Perhaps an even more interesting question than the involvement of the film's A-listers is teh involvement of the actors that became A-listers after the film. I'm sure I don't need to remind you, o scion of cinema, that among the Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood cast included:
- Maya Hawke
- Sydney Sweeney
- Austin Butler
- Margaret Qualley
- Mikey Madison
That's a veritable who's who of Oscar Contenders and It Girls of the past, say, four or five years, and the list isn't even complete. Granted, many of these actors played characters who turned out to be Charlie Manson cultists, so it's highly doubtful that they'll be the focus of the upcoming series.
Wait, what am I saying? It's a Quentin Tarantino and David Fincher team-up. It would be weird if the series wasn't about the cultists, at least in some part.
Popverse is keeping an eye on this spinoff and will report more once we've heard it.
Fade to credits, then a pop-up of what to watch read next - just like Netflix:
