Scooby-Doo is headed to Japan - not just via story, but via style - as Warner Bros. Animation has announced a new Scooby-Doo anime: Go-Go Mystery Machine.
Announced in a press release June 12, Go-Go Mystery Machine will be the Scooby-Doo franchise's first venture into the realm of anime, and Warner Bros. Animation has hired an animation veteran to make sure the journey is a smooth one. Francisco Paredes, who worked on both Young Justice and the Muppet Babies reboot, is attached to the project.
According to the press release, Go-Go Mystery Machine will break the mold of most Scooby-Doo fare slightly, as the monsters that Shaggy and Scooby will encounter on a trip to Japan are indeed supernatural, and not just villains in rubber masks.
(It's far from the first time the franchise has done this, but it's cool to see even still.)

The synopsis for the subject is as follows:
"While visiting Japan on the ultimate foodie adventure, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo unwittingly unleash hundreds of mischievous mythical monsters that are now causing trouble all over the country. With the help of Scooby’s uncle, Daisuke-Doo, and magical friend Etsuko and gadget wiz Toshiro, Shaggy and Scooby have new mysteries to solve and monsters to catch!"
Go-Go Mystery Machine, it seems, will also stand out from most Mystery Inc. stories in that it won't feature staples Velma, Daphne, or Fred as part of the regular line-up. But with the interesting new characters described above, we might not even miss them.
Just kidding. We will always miss Velma when she's not around.
Go-Go Mystery Machine is not currently slated for a specific release date, but we'll let you know as soon as one is announced.
