Apple TV+ really, really wants to make sure that as many people as possible are prepared for the second season of the critically acclaimed Severance before it debuts January 17. A week after making the entire subscription service free for three days at the beginning of 2025, Apple has gone one step further and released the entire first season of the show for free on The Roku Channel until January 19.
The first season’s addition to The Roku Channel is just part of a partnership between Roku and Apple TV+, however; additionally, Roku users will have access to something called The Severance Free Fan Experience between January 17 and January 19, which will offer behind-the-scenes content including an exclusive cast interview, a preview of the second season, and character bios and introductions. Additionally, those that access the Experience will be able to receive three months of free Apple TV+ through Roku.
The Roku Channel is available to anyone with a Roku device, a compatible Samsung Smart TV, a compatible Amazon Fire TV device, or through the Roku mobile app. It’s also available via TheRokuChannel.com. In other words, this new deal between Roku and Apple means that almost anyone can watch the first season of Severance ahead of the debut of the second, if they want to.
Think of it as a sign that Lumon Industries is expanding... and that Apple is very confident that, once audiences see the first season, they're going to want to sign up to Apple TV+ for the second.
