Dear Squid Game season 2: Please stop setting Netflix records. We can only report so many

What is it this time? Oh, Netflix's Squid Game season 2 is now the third most watched season ever? We'll see you for next week's record breaking

Here's a headline you've seen a couple times in the past few weeks: Squid Game season 2 has surpassed a Netflix record. You'll recall that we told you about Squid Game s2 breaking the all-time record for a weekend debut, right? And then, just a few days later, we told you about the season scoring the most views in 11 days that Netflix has ever seen. It's getting a bit unsurprising at this point, but we do have to inform you that Squid Game season 2 has racked up another impressive milestone.

As Variety reported on January 14, Squid Game season 2 has achieved a staggering 152.5 million views in the short time it's been available to stream (since December 26, to be precise). This makes the season the third most watched in the streamer's long history, directly behind Wednesday season 1 and, you won't believe this, Squid Game season 1.

When a show's only competition is essentially itself, you've got to take notice (remember, that's why we argued in the first link that Netflix won't be cancelling the show after the planned season 3 finale). But even more worthy of your attention is the fact that Squid Game season 1 is outpacing its successor after about three years of being on Netflix, the most recent 26 weeks of which have seen the first season consistently in the Top 10 foreign language shows. That means that for one sixth of Squid Game season 1's time on Netflix, it's been in the Top 10 most-watched non-English shows (and that's not even counting its inititial release!).

It also means that you can expect to hear more about Squid Game season 2's record numbers from your good pals at Popverse, tireless entertainment watchdogs as we are. And who knows, you may even hear us offer up a different show to watch to balance the scales.

I'm just saying: give Dan Da Dan a chance. What's the worst that can happen?

Squid Game seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on Netflix now.
