Star Trek: Lower Decks showrunner Mike McMahan would love to take on a live-action Star Trek project

Star Trek: Lower Decks may have concluded, but showrunner Mike McMahan doesn't want it to be the end of the road for him and the Federation

It's very sad to see the end of Star Trek: Lower Decks. Across five seasons, we've grown quite fond of the crew of the Cerritos in all of their dysfunctional glory. In fact, I'd go as far to say that it is now hard for me to conceptualize Star Trek before I even started watching Lower Decks, and I've been a fan for a while!

In a conversation with our very own video producer as part of our members-only Popversations series, Ashley Victoria Robinson, Star Trek: Lower Decks showrunner Mike McMahan revealed that he would love to make more Star Trek in general. McMahan said, "I would love to do live-action Lower Decks, live-action Star Trek, but I want to work with this whole crew [of Lower Decks creators]. If I do live-action, I don't get to work with any of my artists... I want to make more Lower Decks show, I want to make Lower Decks movies, and I want to make a live-action Star Trek that's inspired by Lower Decks, but is a new thing, and that Lower Deckers could show up on."

If it were up to me, I'd greenlight everything McMahan says he would love to do. Who could forget how funny Boimler and Mariner were when they showed up in the live-action crossover episode of Strange New Worlds? Jack Quaid's Boimler is one of the funniest characters to ever appear on Trek, and he and Tawny Newsome's Mariner have infectious chemistry. Honestly, I could watch 6 movies of Mariner, Boimler, and the rest of the Lower Decks crew getting up to all kinds of hijinks.
