Isn't it weird that fantasy stories keep using primarily English accents? Strange New Worlds’ Anson Mount thinks so
If the setting is a fantasy realm, then why does everyone sound like they’re from England?

Anson Mount has noticed a pattern in fantasy movies and television shows, and it doesn’t make any sense. The Star Trek: Strange New Worlds actor believes that fantasy media has a lot of English accents, which doesn’t make sense if the setting is a world or dimension where England doesn’t exist.
“I’m getting tired of the English accent thing in fantasy,” Mount says during the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds panel at Emerald City Comic Con. “I don’t know where that comes from. Is it because of Excalibur? I’m not sure what it is, but it’s odd. When you’re in a fantasy realm and everybody is speaking in a British accent, it’s very strange.”
Now that Mount has said it, I can’t unhear it. Since watching the panel, I’ve noticed lots of English accents in fantasy movies.
Hollywood, next time switch it up and give the fantasy realm warrior an Australian accent. That would be fun.
