Stranger Things: Tales from '85: Netflix's animated adventures from Hawkins, IN gets a title

The Duffer Brothers and Netflix have conquered your screens and stages, announced their plans for your gaming console, and now, are coming for your Saturday Mornings

Saturday morning cartoons were no doubt a huge part of the Stranger Things kids' lives (before, well, everything), and now, the inspiration they had on the characters comes full circle. The long-awaited animated Stranger Things project finally has a title - Stranger Things: Tales from '85 - a name revealed by Netflix itself on Wednesday, April 23.

"We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving," say Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer in Netflix's official statement on the show, "and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling [...] We couldn’t be more blown away by what [showrunner] Eric Robles and his team have come up with –– the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you!"

In case you're wondering, no, the Netflix announcement did not actually contain any of the artwork that the Brothers Duff mention in their statement. That 80s-toon looking graphic I put at the beginning of this article comes via a comic book cover (thanks Dark Horse!).

But what I can share with you for sure is a little bit about the person the Duffer Brothers shout out here, Eric Robles. Eric Robles is an animator and cartoon showrunner with shows like The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy and The X's on his resume. And if those shows don't prove his 80s-inspired cartoon chops to you, consider the fact that Robles also worked on the oft-forgotten, single-season series RoboCop: Alpha Commando.

Just saying - if it were up to the Hawkins gang, Robles sure would be a pretty obvious choice.

Stranger Things season 5 is expected on Netflix later this year. No official statement on the Stranger Things: Tales from '85 release date has been made.
