Yes, I know, you are still desperately waiting for news of Stranger Things season 5. And while we don't have any of that (believe me, you'll be the first to know when we learn the release date), we do have some pretty exciting news from the world of Hawkins, Indiana. The very first photos form the set of Stranger Things: The First Shadow, the Stranger Things prequel that will run on Broadway this year, have been released.
The news comes to us from Broadway-centric media outlet Playbill, who released the pictures March 12. Click the highlighted link to check out the images, captured at the Marquis Theatre on 46th and Broadway in New York City. Don't expect to see the official costumes just yet (these are only rehearsal photos, after all), but go ahead and get a glimpse of the intensity and passion it takes to bring Stranger Things to stage... as well as some real "kids on bikes" energy from some of the plucky protagonists.
Written by Kate Trefry and directed by Stephen Daldry (and based on a story by the Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne, and Trelfy), Stranger Things: The First Shadow features some familiar Hawkins faces in their younger years. In the Playbill photos released March 12, we got to see some of those younger faces, such as Burke Swanson as James Hopper Jr., Alison Jaye as Joyce Maldonado, and Juan Carlos as Bob Newby.
But the real star of the show (literally, he's the main character), is young Henry Creel, the Would Be King of the Upside Down. Bringing the role of Creel to Broadway is Louis McCartney, also included in the Playbill photos, the original Henry Creel from The First Shadow's debut production in London's West End. Still running at the Phoenix Theatre, Stranger Things: The First Shadow now features Louis Healy as the future Vecna.
Stranger Things: The First Shadow debuts at the Marquis Theatre in New York City April 22. Stranger Things season 5 is expected this year.
As we all collectively wait for Stranger Things season 5, here's the keys to getting ready:
- How to watch Stranger Things in chronological or release order
- Getting to know the Stranger Things season 5 cast
- There needs to be more death in Stranger Things, says co-star Gaten Matarazzo
- The Stranger Things time jump between season 4 and 5 has been confirmed by Netflix - and it raises some serious questions
- "They land the plane," David Harbour describes the Stranger Things finale, which he calls its "best episode"
