I am by no means in the "sports are bad" camp that so many of my nerdly-minded compatriots find themselves. However, I have to admit that what I probably look forward to the most about the Super Bowl each year is the crop of commercials that play during it. They're some of the best-made, most impactful ads of the entire year, and that goes doubly so when one of them is brand new footage of a hot-ticket upcoming movie... which is seemingly what we're going to be getting this year.

According to Variety, Jurassic World: Rebirth's first trailer is expected to debut during Super Bowl LIX.

In case you haven't already heard, Jurassic World: Rebirth is the latest in the Jurassic Park sequel franchise/reboot, succeeding 2022's Jurassic World: Dominion. It stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Academy Award-winner Mahershala Ali as scientists studying the dinosaurs that have freed themselves from the confines of Jurassic Park and are now a part of the Earth's biosphere. And not only are those un-extinct dinosaurs a major scientific interest, they also have evolved to produce a miracle drug for human illnesses.

The film is currently set to release in July of this year.

Other films that trailer-heads can expect to see, according to the article above, are the first one for Blumhouse's M3GAN 2.0 and the newest for the live-action How to Train Your Dragon remake. What will be noticeably absent from this list, interestingly, is any footage of this Christmas's Wicked Part Two - the follow-up to the box office shattering musical that is, as of this writing, up for an impressive 10 Oscars.

Who knows: maybe Universal figured that people would rather watch dinosaurs and dragons during a Super Bowl commercial break over the promised the return of best pals Elphaba and Glinda. Then again, I don't see that same logic working for a creepy little killbot, unless of course you're like me and you think creepy little killbots are cool. 

There's something I'll always choose to watch over sports. No offense.

Super Bowl LIX will run on FOX networks on February 9 at 6:30 PM EST. Jurassic World: Rebirth comes to theaters July 2, 2025.
