CBS has pulled the plug on SWAT, but can the show find a future at Netflix?

Another day, another cancelation for SWAT. The Shemar Moore-led action series has been axed for the third time CBS after 8 seasons. The series followed Moore's character, a SWAT sergeant named Hondo who was based in Los Angeles. Together with his '20 Squad,' Hondo grapples with his identity as a Black man from Los Angeles and his job in law enforcement.

The first time SWAT was canceled was after its sixth season in 2023. However, only a few days later, CBS rescinded its cancelation of the show and renewed it for a seventh season. That seventh season was intended to be the final one for the show, before the network decided to renew it for an eighth season in April 2024.

Online, Shemar Moore has leaped into action to try to find the show a home someplace else. Moore broke the news to fans over Instagram, where he directly addressed one streamer in particular: "Hey Netflix, how you doing?"

Netflix has rescued a few shows from cancelation from other networks in the past. The sci-fi animated show, Scavengers Reign, was originally on Max before it was canceled and then picked up by Netflix. Scavengers Reign wasn't greenlit for a second season by Netflix, but the fact that the streamer was even willing to take the first season on says something.
