The curtain may be falling on Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale later this spring, but it's a new day for Margaret Atwood adaptations with the upcoming show, The Testaments. Based on Atwood's novel of the same title, The Testaments is a sequel to The Handmaid's Tale, and has cast Lucy Halliday as Daisy, one of the protagonists of the story. Halliday is joined by Ann Dowd and Chase Infiniti as the show's two other protagonists, Aunt Lydia and Agnes, respectively.
The plot of The Testaments takes place fifteen years after The Handmaid's Tale, and follows Daisy after she learns of her origins in Gilead. Daisy has been raised in Canada, and knows nothing of where she truly comes from. Previously, Halliday has appeared in the BBC film, Blue Jean, where she played a lesbian student in the UK during 1988, during the introduction of Section 28. Halliday won a Scottish BAFTA for her role in Blue Jean.
The showrunner of The Testaments will be Bruce Miller, who is also the creator and showrunner of The Handmaid's Tale adaptation. Miller will also be executive-producing the show with Warren Littlefield (the Fargo series), and Steve Stark (Wednesday).
The final season of The Handmaid's Tale is set to release with its first three episodes on April 8 on Hulu. Afterward, new episodes will drop weekly until the show wraps up for good on May 27.
