Homelander's dad Soldier Boy is returning for The Boys' final season

Are you ready for more Soldier Boy? The Boys season 5 will feature Jensen Ackles as a series regular.

The Boys season 4 may have just wrapped up, but we already have some hints at what’s in store for season 5. During a Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, showrunner Eric Kripke was asked what he was able to reveal about the fifth (and final) season of Prime Video’s superhero comedy. Kripke reminded everyone that it was still early in the production process, but he still had a surprise up his sleeve.

“We are just in the [writers] room, but we did cast a brand new actor. I’m just really excited for you guys to meet him. So, if it’s cool with you guys, I just want to bring him out and introduce him to everyone,” Kripke said.

Jensen Ackles surprised everyone by walking onstage, causing the crowd to erupt in cheers. Of course, Ackles is far from a new actor, so it appears Kripke was having some fun with us. While Ackles is best known for his role as Dean Winchester in the horror drama Supernatural, he also had a recurring role on The Boys as Soldier Boy.

Soldier Boy is Vought International’s Cold War era superhero. He’s the father of the character Homelander, and he’s currently in cryogenic hibernation. However, it looks like he’ll be waking up soon. “We can announce that Soldier Boy will be a regular in season 5,” Kripke said.

“I’m like an itch that just won’t go away, aren’t I,” Ackles joked.

If you’re a fan of Soldier Boy, then you’re in luck. In addition to becoming a regular in The Boys season 5, Kripke and Ackles also announced that Soldier Boy would be starring in Vought Rising, a prequel series set in the 1950s.

It’s Soldier Boy’s world, we’re just living in it.
