The Last of Us season 2 release date: We're in for a long wait to see Joel and Ellie return in the HBO series

Patience is a virtue for fans at the moment.

We’ve known that The Last of Us season two is coming since just a few weeks after the first season premiered, which isn’t surprising considering how both fans and critics raved about it. It didn’t take long for HBO to announce a second season was on its way, but we’re still waiting for an exact release date for The Last of Us season two – and it doesn’t look like our wait will be over anytime soon.

We’ve known that The Last of Us season two is on its way since January 2023, but since then we’ve had scant details about when it is going to come out. Part of that is because of the Hollywood strikes of 2023, which put writing and production on most shows on hold for several months. The only information we’ve had is an update from the company that The Last of Us season two will come out sometime in 2025.

The good news is that, despite the ambiguity of that release date, the cast of The Last of Us season two was back on set for filming in February 2024. The bad news is that filming is expected to take place until around August 2024, which means that a potential release date for new episodes will probably be pushed to the latter half of 2025. Still, we’re excited to see how the crew tackles adapting the more complex story of The Last of Us Part II.

The Last of Us season two is set to premiere sometime in 2025, with a release date in the second half of the year looking more likely.
