Move along, François Truffaut, because Steven Knight is back with a new show called A Thousand Blows. Knight is best known for creating the Netflix hit, Peaky Blinders, about the Birmingham organized crime group of the same name. A Thousand Blows is set during the Victorian era and will follow two Jamaican immigrants as they brush shoulders with the Forty Elephants crime group in London's East End. The boxing element of A Thousand Blows comes from the newcomers' interactions with Sugar Goodson, a famed boxer in the neighborhood.

The series will consist of 12 episodes and will premiere on Hulu on February 21, 2025. Hulu has released a teaser trailer for the show, and it's clear that A Thousand Blows will continue Knight's interest in exploring the lives of those shunned by polite society in Britain's past. And, of course, the brutal violence that impacts people living at the margins. You can watch the trailer below.

It remains to be seen whether A Thousand Blows will feature a raucous soundtrack like Peaky Blinders, a show that used Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' song, Red Right Hand, as its main title theme. As much as I enjoyed the music in Peaky Blinders, it was really the show's excellent writing and acting that kept me coming back. But I won't ever say no to hearing bands like Joy Division, Foals, Radiohead, The Kills, Arctic Monkeys, and The White Stripes in a period drama.

A Thousand Blows will release on Hulu on February 21, 2025.
