Tokyo Revengers watch order: Everything you need to know about the time-jumping hit Shonen anime
Time travel is a messy business.
Popverse's top stories of the day
- Milhouse lives! What will happen to The Simpsons after voice actor Pamela Hayden's retirement?
- Watch the official Dragon Ball DAIMA panel from NYCC 2024!
- Before Doctor Doom takes over the MCU, he's taking over Marvel Comics with 2025's One World Under Doom
When time travel is involved, it can complicate any plot, so diving into Tokyo Revengers can be daunting for new fans. However, you shouldn’t let that get in the way of enjoying one of the best Shonen anime of the last ten years – not when our Tokyo Revengers watch guide can help.
26-year-old temp worker Takemichi Hanagaki finds out one day that his ex-girlfriend has been killed by the Tokyo Manji Gang. Shortly after, he is transported 12 years into the past to when he was dating her and tries to find a way to prevent her death. However, each of his actions has unintended consequences, resulting in new tragedies when he returns to the present. If that sounds like a complicated plot, hopefully this Tokyo Revengers watch guide can help.
How to watch Tokyo Revengers in release order
It is important to remember that, despite Takemichi creating new timelines each time he jumps back to 12 years in the past, everything is told from his point of view, meaning that it doesn’t make sense to try to watch Tokyo Revengers in chronological order. Unlike Monogatari, there is no benefit to trying to watch Tokyo Revengers in chronological order. Doing so would be confusing and lack any narrative structure, so we highly recommend you stick to the release order for the anime.
The one caveat to that is the live-action films that were released as the anime was coming out. These movies don’t have any unique material to them – they simply retell what has happened in the anime and manga but with large chunks of content removed for time. As such, you can easily skip them if you want. They’re fun and well done but aren’t necessarily the best way to watch Tokyo Revengers.
The Tokyo Revengers release order is:
- Tokyo Revengers Season 1 Episodes 1-13
- Tokyo Revengers The Movie
- Tokyo Revengers Season 1 Episodes 14-24
- Tokyo Revengers 2: Bloody Halloween-hen Part 1
- Tokyo Revengers 2: Bloody Halloween-hen Part 2
- Tokyo Revengers Season 2 Episodes 1-13
- Tokyo Revengers Season 3 Episodes 1-13
Where can I watch Tokyo Revengers?
The good news is that every episode of the Tokyo Revengers anime is available to stream online in almost every territory. The bad news is that it is spread across two different streaming services, which makes it more expensive to watch than most fans would probably want. Season one is on Crunchyroll and seasons two and three are both on Disney+.
Streaming the films is slightly more complicated. The first Tokyo Revengers movie is available to stream on Crunchyroll. However, neither part of Tokyo Revengers 2: Bloody Halloween-hen is available to stream outside Japan. Your best bet is to try to track down a physical copy if you want to complete your Tokyo Revengers watching experience.
When is Tokyo Revengers season four coming out?
After three seasons of the anime, there is still plenty of manga left to adapt. However, fans eager for Tokyo Revengers season four will be slightly disappointed as there hasn’t been an official announcement of when it will be made.
However, it isn’t all bad news. A sequel anime was announced in June 2024. Titled Dowa Revengers, these mini-episodes will present classic fairy tales with a Tokyo Revengers twist. No release date has been given for Dowa Revengers yet, so we don’t expect to see it until well into 2025 at this point.
How many seasons are there in Tokyo Revengers?
There is some confusion about how many seasons of Tokyo Revengers have been released so far, partly because of how sites like Disney+ list them and partly because of the inconsistent number of episodes in each season. So far, there have been three seasons of Tokyo Revengers. The first season, released in 2021, had 24 episodes. Season two, which covered the Christmas Showdown arc from the manga, aired in January 2023 and had 13 episodes. The third season also had 13 episodes and aired in October 2023, covering the Tenjikua arc.
However, seasons two and three are listed as a single season of 26 episodes on Disney+, which, combined with how close their release dates were, has led many fans to refer to them as a single season. However, they cover entirely different arcs and were released as Tokyo Revengers seasons two and three.
