Wednesday's season 2 trailer reveals two-part release dates... and introduces a secret Addams Family member?

Just whose grave are we looking at in the Wednesday season 2 teaser trailer, and what does it mean for our macabre heroine?

"Wherever there's murder and mayhem," says Wednesday Addams in the first teaser trailer for Wednesday season 2, "You will always find an Addams."

Well, sure, Wednesday, we know that. But which Addams will we find? And more importantly, are we sure we know of all the Addams that can be found?

That's perhaps the most mysterious question that comes out of the trailer, released by Netflix on April 23. We're going to dive into that question in just a moment, but first, go ahead and take a look at the trailer for yourself.

It's a pretty exciting trailer, not only because it reveals that Wednesday season 2 will be released in two parts, first on August 6 and second on September 3 (so don't worry, you'll be able to binge the whole thing come Halloween), but because it seems to expand the Addams Family lore into including more than just the clan we're aware of. So who could that mystery Addams be? Let's get into it.

Thus far in the Wednesday-verse, we've met pretty much every member of the family from the TV show and films, including:

  • Wednesday Addams
  • Gomez Addams
  • Morticia Addams
  • Pugsley Addams
  • Fester Addams

Plus characters in the Family's close circle such as Thing and Lurch. Thanks to Fred Armisen's Uncle Fester, we've even gotten a reference to Cousin Itt, the hairy, not-definitively human relative that helps complete the ensemble. If you're a fan of the Addams Family franchise, you know this only leaves one person unintroduced.

That is Grandmama, who was originally Gomez's biological mother. Could she be the mystery Addams Family member that the Wednesday season 2 teaser trailer seems to hint at? Well, perhaps, although there is the fact that, in later iterations of the character, her surname is given as "Frump," changing her character to be the biological mother of Morticia. We know, too, that Netflix's Morticia had that maiden name, so this is an unlikely option.

Besides, that broken grave is clearly of some mystery character with the surname "Addams."

I don't claim to be the same caliber of detective that our woeful wonder woman is, but I can tell you all of this leads me to believe we're going to meet an all-new Addams Family member come this fall. Sure, that family member might already be dead but, hey, that doesn't mean they can't come back. After all, Addamses have a thing about making it to reunions, mortality be damned.

Wednesday season 2, Part 1 premieres on Netflix on August 6. Part 2 premieres on Netflix on September 3.
