Broadway's Beetlejuice star Alex Brightman and his Hazbin Hotel co-star Brandon Rogers reveal their dream Broadway roles
To nobody’s surprise, each of these roles has a death theme

In many ways, Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss feel like animated versions of Broadway plays. Both shows contain big musical numbers, and some of the actors honed their craft by doing musical theater. There is also some overlap between Hazbin fandom and musical theater nerds.
With that in mind, we can’t help but wonder what Broadway roles the cast dream about.
“There’s a play by Martin McDonagh called The Pillowman that I love,” Fizz actor Alex Brightman says during the Hazbin Hotel panel at Emerald City Comic Con 2025. “I love it, I’ve always loved it. It’s one of the only times I’ve ever been…not scared….petrified in a live performance. I didn’t realize you could feel that way.”
Brightman, who is no stranger to the Broadway stage, explained the plot of the play, and it’s absolutely macabre. “It’s about a children’s author, who writes children’s books, sort of like the Pied Piper kind of stuff. And he’s under interrogation because somebody in his town is killing actual children the ways he’s written in these stories. And he’s under investigation, and the whole thing is like, should you go after the person who wrote the thing, even though they didn’t do it.”
“It kind of plays on that whole idea of belief over fact, and I’m obsessed with that kind of stuff. It was on Broadway at some point, I saw it 7 times. I would play any of the 4 characters in it. It’s a fabulous thing.” Brightman says.
For Blitzo actor Brandon Rogers, he just wanted a role where he could participate in lots of bloodshed. “I want to do Sweeney Todd. I love a character that just kills a lot of fucking people,” Rogers says.
Plus, it helps that the play has that cool trapdoor under the barber’s chair. “I love that set. It’s like a playground for actors,” Rogers continues.
However, Rogers couldn’t resist teasing his costar, Brightman. “I would kill the play Beetlejuice,” Rogers jokes, alluding to Brightman’s famous Broadway role.
However, this joke electrified Brightman’s imagination. “You would be a killer Beetlejuice. I never really thought about that until you just said it, but you would,” Brightman says.
Having seen Rogers tear it up as Blitzo, I have to agree. He would be a killer Beetlejuice. Hey Brandon, if you get bored during the next Helluva Boss season hiatus, I have some ideas on how you can spend your spare time.
