Most of the Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss episodes are improv, with very little of the original scripts' dialogue in the final version
Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss’s Brandon Rogers and Alex Brightman say they improv most of the episode scripts

Some actors live and die by their scripts.
The Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss cast take a different approach.
The actors behind the animated musical comedies get a leeway during the recording process, allowing them to punch up their lines if they have a better idea.
“There are no Nazi Nancys at the Spindle studio,” Blitzo actor Brandon Rogers says during the Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss panel at Emerald City Comic Con this weekend. “We are very loosey goosey. I have never felt like they put a limit on me. In fact, I go back sometimes and read the scripts and they’re nothing like….I realize, are they really letting me run with it?”
“Brandon says go back to the script, but what he really means is I read the script for the first time,” Robo Fizz actor Alex Brightman playfully replies.
“They let us run with it,” Rogers continues, “The thing is, we’re all working on the same show, so if anyone comes up with a better version of that line, then everyone kind of agrees. A lot of the original scripts are not even close to what’s in the final product of what people are saying, because they let us have fun in the moment.”
Brightman gave more context to Rogers’s comments, making it clear that the recording sessions aren’t free-for-alls. “The great is that Viv [Medrano] has such integrity with what the story has to be and end up being, that there isn’t just a yes to everything, which I think is really helpful to future directors and writers out there. You do need to have non-negotiables and set your limits when it comes to the story you’re telling. Otherwise, it’s going to be comedy by committee, which is not always the greatest thing in the world, because everybody gets their thing in, which means that it’s just too crowded.”
