With Young Sheldon coming to an end, it is the first time since 2007 that the character of Sheldon Cooper hasn’t been on our TV screens each week. The Big Bang Theory left the air back in 2019, two years after Young Sheldon began airing on the same network. After seven seasons, the prequel sitcom will air its final episode – but when will the Young Sheldon finale air and what can fans expect from the last episode?
The final episode of Young Sheldon is set to air on May 16, 2024, but the producers are looking to help send the character off with a suitably big bang. In addition to Iain Armitage playing the younger version of Sheldon, Jim Parsons, who originated the character on The Big Bang Theory, and Mayim Bialik, who played Sheldon’s girlfriend and eventual wife Amy in the original show, will reprise their roles on the series finale of Young Sheldon.
Why has CBS decided to pull the plug on Young Sheldon? The show has always had steady ratings for the network – while they have never reached the lofty heights of its parent show, Young Sheldon has pulled in consistent ratings since The Big Bang Theory went off the air. However, a big deciding factor was that the series was approaching the age where the character was going to go off to post-graduate school and leave his hometown, making it a natural place to end his story.
The Young Sheldon finale will air on May 16, 2024 on CBS.
