When it comes to Digivolving, things have been pretty quiet over the last few years, with the 2023 end of the animated Digimon Ghost Game series and no video game release since 2022’s Digimon Survive. That’s going to change later this year, with Digimon Story: Time Stranger officially announced during Sony’s State of Play livestream February 12.
The game’s existence actually leaked online early when pre-orders accidentally opened for the game ahead of the livestream. Those pre-orders, for PS5 and Xbox, officially list the release date as December 31, 2025, which is understood to be a placeholder; the official announcement didn’t have any more information than ‘2025.’
The announcement was accompanied by a teaser trailer that promised “an apocalypse looms over parallel worlds,” as well as “the battle to alter destiny.” So, you know, the stakes aren’t that high, it seems.
Time Stranger is just the latest game to use the Digimon Story branding, which launched in 2006 with the original Digimon Story game, followed by Digimon Story Sunburst, Digimon Story Moonlight, Digimon Story Lost Evolution, Digimon Story Super Xros Wars, Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, and Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth — Hacker’s Memory, which was released in 2017.
