The Terrifier 3 ending was originally “much more dark," and David Howard Thornton explains what happened

Thornton begged Terrifier 3 director Damien Leone not to change the original ending

Can we talk about the ending to Terrifier 3? That was intense! Sienna saw Art the Clown brutally murder her family, right before her cousin Gabbie fell through a portal to Hell. It’s a pretty bleak ending, but it turns out the version we saw was the toned down one.

Speaking to a crowd at Nightmare Weekend Richmond, Art the Clown actor David Howard Thornton revealed that the original ending was much darker. “We went through several drafts of the script. This thing changed so many times. Daily.”

“The ending to the film was actually much longer, and much more dark. Much MORE dark. We just didn’t have time, so we had to condense things to make sure we could fit everything in there. The one thing that I remember, the first time I read the script I said, ‘Damien, if you change anything, do not change this ending.’ I loved how it ended with these characters,” Thornton continued.

“It’s such an Empire Strikes Back ending, and I love seeing these characters both being put in vulnerable places, and I’m very unsure of where they’re going to be going from now on. That’s such a great place to end things, and I’m very excited to see where we’re going to be taking it going forward.”

The ending of Terrifier 3 was pretty dark, so I can’t imagine how intense the original ending was. It makes me wonder what Damien Leone has planned for Terrifier 4.
