Hey, Marvel fans who sit and wait for the post-credit scenes by talking to their friends instead of reading the credits themselves — we’re doing it wrong. None other than Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige himself has revealed that the entire point of those end-credit scenes is to get people to read the credits and think about who made the movie.
“The tags that we put at the end of our movies — yes, they’re fun, yes, they look forward to the next adventures, yes, they’re fun things you can go home with,” Feige explained during a conversation with IMDb, “but really, they’re there to force people to sit through the end credits, and to watch all those names and to learn, what are those roles? Who are those people doing those roles? That, to me, was the first step [in my career] and that there are, literally, hundreds of positions one could take to add to the tapestry of Hollywood history.”
Doing so, he argues, is the first step in becoming the next Kevin Feige — as is checking out the history of the movie industry on sites like IMDb. It feels almost common sense to say that “know what you’re doing” should be a baseline expectation of wanting to succeed in any industry, but what do I know? I’m not even reading every single credit as I comes up on screen while I wait for the post-credit teaser for the next big thing.
