No, there isn't a Kraven the Hunter post-credits scene - but it does set up a sequel - SPOILERS!

Perhaps the Hunt has Begun, but we'd prefer Cutting to the Chase. Here's everything you need to know about the lack of post-credits scene in Kraven the Hunter, full spoilers for the ending, and the unlikely sequel set-up

Major spoilers for Kraven the Hunter follow.

Nope! Kraven the Hunter does not have a post-credits scene.

If that's all you were Googling, then there you have it. Go on your merry way and perhaps check out a more critically beloved Kraven the Hunter story. But if you'd like to dive just a little bit deeper into the Aaron Taylor-Johnson-starring Sony movie, the latest in its efforts to build a cinematic Spider-Man universe without, you know, Spider-Man, then we've got you covered. Just remember, we warned you about spoilers.

Kraven the Hunter ending explained

One thing that marketing certainly got right about Kraven is the fact that it's a movie jam-packed full of villains. Some real, Sinister ones; the kind that come in Sixes. Though we don't actually get a Sinister Six in this film, the ending comes pretty close. After spending most of the movie realizing his purpose as a hunter, Kraven finds himself confronted by Aleksei Sytsevich, AKA Marvel Comic's Rhino, who transforms into a hybrid of a human being and the beast with which he shares a name.

Kraven of course defeats the Rhino, but again, this movie's got baddies galore. It turns out there were forces behind the Rhino's attack, one of them being Dr. Miles Warren, a mad scientist going by the name The Jackal in Marvel Comics, and Kraven's own dad, Nikolai Kravinoff, portrayed by Russell Crowe. It turns out that Nikolai and Miles have staged the Rhino's attack on Kraven, and Kraven gets back at his father by talking things out with him.

Ah wait, sorry, he lets him get mauled by a bear.

With the movie's primary antagonists beaten, Kraven the Hunter ends with the titular character donning his-comics-accurate vest and starting a distinctly less villainous life than his comic book counterpart. And while moviegoing fans don't have to wait for a post-credits scene, they'll certainly be able to tell how the movie sets up a sequel.

Will there be a Kraven the Hunter sequel?

If early reports are to be believed, Sony feels that Kraven the Hunter did not meet their standards. Along with Morbius and Madame Web, it's another box office and critical misfire, and it looks like Sony is considering leaving the Spider-Man villain universe behind. This of course means that there is no chance that we'll get a Kraven the Hunter sequel.

Which is not to say the movie doesn't set on up. One of the villains in the film that we haven't mentioned yet is Kraven's brother, Dmitri, who is known to Marvel Comics readers as the Chameleon. By the end of the film, we find out that Dmitri has also consulted Dr. Warren, and has been given powers also akin to the creature from which he takes his name. The end of the movie has Dmitri seemingly following in his father's footsteps, leading the criminal life that his brother has rejected.

If a sequel to Kraven the Hunter were to happen, it would probably be a Kraven the Hunter vs. The Chameleon film, one that somehow ties into the overarching Knull Big Bad storyline set up by Venom: The Last Dance.

Is Kraven the Hunter the only Sony Spider-Man film without a post-credits scene?

So you know you don't have to wait and watch through Kraven the Hunter's credits, but was that the case in every single Sony Spider-Verse movie? they're Marvel movies too, remember, so post-credits were if not a requirement at least a strong possibility. But Kraven the Hunter isn't the only Sony Spider-Verse movie without post-credits scenes. The critically panned Madame Web also does not have a post-credits scene.

This means that the Sony Spider-Verse live-action movies with post-credits scenes are:

  • Venom
  • Venom: Let There Be Carnage
  • Morbius
  • Venom: The Last Dance

Is Kraven the Hunter the last Sony Spider-Man film?

Again, Kraven's poor performance does appear to signal a shift in Sony's plans, with The Wrap (article linked above) claiming that the studio will instead spend the time to develop Spider-Man focused projects like the new animated Spider-Verse films, Amazon's Spider-Noir show, and a new Marvel Studios Spider-Man movie, which they are of course partners on.

So no, Kraven the Hunter will not be Sony's last stab at a Spider-Man movie - despite this misfire, theirs is still one of the biggest film IPs in the world. However, we almost certainly will not get more time with poor Kraven. Or at the very least, not the one from this film.

And he was just getting his costume figured out, too.
