HBO's Game of Thrones characters reuniting to help you get bad taste of the ending out of your mouth with (mobile) game Kingsroad

Yep, that's Jon Snow, Jaime Lannister, and Cersei Lannister in the Game of Thrones: Kingsroad trailer, looking exactly like the actors that portrayed them in the HBO show

Despite the controversial ending of the original show, the Game of Thrones franchise continues to grow. Not only will there be another couple seasons of prequel The House of the Dragon, there will also be at least two more spinoffs on TV and one feature film. At this year's Game Awards, fans got a special look at the franchise's foray into the gaming space, as a trailer for upcoming video game Kingsroad played to the assembled crowd and, later, made it online. If you were a fan of the first series, you no doubt recognized a handful of familiar faces, which we'll get into in just a sec. First, take a look at the Game of Thrones: Kingsroad trailer right here:

Your eyes don't deceive you: those are the likenesses of Jaime Lannister, Cersei Lannister, and maybe most excitingly, Jon Snow (could you not tell from the "don't underestimate Northern bastards" line?). Netmarble, the studio behind the upcoming game, has worked very hard to ensure that the characters are picture perfect reflections of the actors that played them, which would be Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, and Kit Harrrington, respectively. What's unclear at the moment (and might bring the mood down) is whether or not these actors will actually be giving voice to their characters in the game.

And while we're on the subject of tempering expectations, we feel the need to point out what you might not get from the headlines about this project - namely, that it is a mobile game. Which is not to say that there's anything even remotely wrong with mobile gaming, just that fans hoping for a Game of Thrones game on the level of a Skyrim or Baldur's Gate 3 might want to approach with the proper expectations.

But hey, Game Awards watchers can't be too disappointed in that department, right? It's not ever awards show that you get a trailer for Witcher 4.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will release some time in 2025.

House of the Dragon season 2 may be over, but Popverse is still in the Westeros spirit, and we've got more Game of Thrones articles than could fit on a spiky chair. We'll tell you how to watch through the Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon saga in order, or if you're so inclined, read through it. We've dug through and exhumed the biggest differences between the two HBO shows set in Westeros, and gotten an inside look at them from House of the Dragon's prop designers. We've covered the history of Westeros's greatest houses & families, talked you through every single dragon in House of the Dragon so far, and peered into the future regarding A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, HBO's upcoming GoT spinoff, and we've got much, much more on the way.
